Police officers on Tuesday gunned down a suspected robber in Likoni, Mombasa County.The suspect is said to be a member of a panga-wielding gang that has been terrorising residents.The police gunned down the suspect after receiving reports about the 20-member gang that was attacking and slashing residents in Mwatsalafu.An eyewitness, Mr Mohammed Kombo, told the Nation that the suspect was killed after he attempted to attack police officers. Confirming the incident, Mombasa County Commander Johnstone Ipara said police are still pursuing other suspects, adding that they will not tolerate incidents of crime in the area.“We are still pursuing other suspects who were slashing people in broad daylight. We cannot allow a few individuals to disrupt our peace and the parents should be warned,” said Ipara, as quoted by the local daily.The shooting comes at a time when police in Kisauni are probing an incident in which two armed gangsters killed a bodaboda operator and stole his motorbike before escaping.Kisauni police chief Christopher Rotich said the bodaboda operator was killed after he refused to give the thieves the motorbike. The victim was transporting two passengers when the incident occurred.
