Some 10 students have been apprehended by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) detectives in Kiambu in connection with the burning of a dormitory at StephJoy Boys High School in Kiambu.
According to the CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro, the culprits are said to have conducted the crime with the help of some outside forces. He said the investigators are interrogating them to ensure they get the necessary information on the same.
Speaking when he toured the institution on Monday morning, Muhoro said that the students have given them some information which will be important in the investigations. He added that they will be holding them until they are through with investigations.
Muhoro, however, faulted the school’s administration saying that the dormitory that was burnt cannot be used by human beings as it has no ventilation and the windows are covered by grills despite having narrow doors that cannot allow passage of two people at a time.
“Even if am not a contractor or a mason, I think this dangerous to the lives of the students. This is torture to children and the person who built this must have been building a cell,” he said.
Over three hundred students have been picked from the institution by their parents and the school closed indefinitely.
