Nakuru Bernard Kioko said the incident, involving ex-councillor Philip Kiano, happened  on Sunday at Kaptembwa estate in the west of Nakuru town.

Kioko said the injured traders and other residents who recorded the car number plate helped police identify him as the culprit, who has since gone into hiding.

"The former councillor is a well-known local businessperson and he was easily identified by residents,” said Kioko.

“They even gave us the car’s number plate and we have certified that he is the culprit. We are pursuing him and we will soon arrest him and take him to court.”

In another related incident, a motorcycle rider who caused an accident that led to the injury of his customer is being held at the Nakuru Central police station awaiting further investigations by police before being arraigned in court.

The police boss told journalists that Jorum Mwala, while riding ‘carelessly’ along Kanu street in Nakuru town’s Langalanga estate, caused an accident in which his passenger sustained serious injuries.

He, however, tried to escape from the scene but was arrested by members of the public and other motorcycle operators in the area who handed him to police.
