About 60 flower farm workers in Naivasha escaped death narrowly on Saturday evening when a staff bus they were traveling in was hit by train just a few kilometers from Naivasha town.
The workers from Avarta farm were involved in the afternoon accident near Panorama Hotel on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu highway.
Five of them had serious injuries, while 24 others sustained minor injuries.
The injured were taken to Naivasha sub-county Hospital for treatment.
A witness said the train that was heading to Kisumu from Nakuru is said to have hit the bus that was crossing the railway line.
“The bus driver was heading to the other side of the road when the train hit the bus,” said Peter Muiruri.
The bus was dragged for some metres as the workers called for help to save their lives before the train proceeded with its journey.
It is alleged that the driver was obstructed by some trees and so he could not see the train.
Naivasha deputy OCPD Agnes Ajamong who confirmed the accident said; “We are now tracking the driver because he escaped, hopefully we shall arrest him soon.”
