Police in Nakuru are hunting down for an illegal brew dealer in Muchanganyiko slum area, who manufactured a killer brew that has caused two deaths and several others hospitalised.
Area Sub chief Samuel Karanja told journalists on Friday morning that the notorious Chang’aa and Busaa brewer identified as Francis Njuguna went into hiding on Thursday evening, after police and other law enforcers in the area started looking for him with intent of arresting him.
According to Karanja, villagers had informed law enforcers that two middle aged men died after consuming the illegal brew at the suspect’s drinking den.
He added that several others who also had consumed the illicit Chang’aa were hospitalised at Bahati Medical Centre in critical conditions.
“We suspect that this man was experimenting on a new formula in his illegal brewing ventures. The young men and women who have been affected are his most loyal customers who often assist him in brewing chores and work as tasters,” said the Sub-chief.
Karanja said that the dead were found in their rental units in the slums on Thursday morning, after they had spent the better part of the previous day at the suspect’s den.
A neighbour of the suspect, also a village elder Dominic Wambua said the suspect escaped on a motor cycle, after word reached him that two of his loyal customers had succumbed to death.
“We alerted the sub-chief who in turn alerted Police from Bahati Police Station. But when police arrived, he was already gone,” said the elder, adding that police ransacked the illegal brewer’s house and confiscated some items and documents which they will use for investigations.
