Police officers in North Kitutu, Nyamira County have launched a manhunt for the suspects who raped a cow to death on Wednesday.
According to area police boss James Musyimi, the suspect untied the cow from where the owner tied it to sleep on Tuesday night and took it some few meters away from the homestead, tied it with ropes, raped and killed it instantly.
"It is so sad for a normal human being to rape an animal to death yet we have so many women in villages without men.
"The suspects who committed the heinous act must be arrested to be prosecuted. Police officers have gotten crucial information which will help in arresting the criminals," he assured.
Musyimi pleaded with members of the public to cooperate with police to ensure no similar incident occurs in the region.
"Rapists have turned to cows because there is no formula for one to seduce an animal. Residents need to step up efforts to ensure any rapist hiding in the villages is flushed out before he spoils other cows in the villages," he noted.
He called on Nyumba Kumi officials not to spare or defend criminals once they arrest them.
