Police officers in Masaba North, Nyamira County are hunting for suspects who razed down houses in Bonyunyu allegedly in opposition to construction of water dam. 

The suspects set on fire two houses belonging to their neighbors on claims that they are supporting the construction of the dam.

A number of locals are said to be opposing construction of the dam that is funded by World Bank on grounds that proper consultation were not done.  

Nyamira County commissioner Isaiah Nakoru confirmed the incident and said police officers are yet to arrest suspects.

According to him, police officers also faced hostility from locals when trying to access the site.  

“This project will be help locals with clean water and I call on leaders to stop inciting residents to allow the construction of the dam to start," he said. 

Nakoru assured that the suspects who razed the house are being pursued and will be arrested.
