Police officers in Naivasha have launched a manhunt for a hotel worker said to have stolen a bag belonging to a foreign tourist.

The tourist was among the four other holidaymakers at the hotel.

According to Naivasha deputy commissioner Isaac Masinde, the worker was in a group of other people who were trying to put off fire that had engulfed the hotel where the tourist was staying.

"The worker stole the tourist’s bag which contained cash and other valuables. Workers at the hotel have recorded statements and are helping us to trace the worker who fled after he stole the bag,” said Masinde.

The commissioner urged employers to hire workers with good history and not criminals.

“Employers risks losing customers because of employing staff who will not be trusted. Scrutiny of workers should be done when hiring workers,” he said.
