Police in Eldoret are chasing after six people who are suspected have been involved in a failed bank robbery in Eldoret town.

So far, two have been arrested and three guns recovered from a car used by one of the suspects last Friday.

According to the police, the car also had a fake number plate.

They said that the suspects entered Supreme Equity Bank at Poa Place and forcefully took two loaded AK47 rifles from officers guarding the building before storming inside.

According to Eldoret West police boss Samuel Mutunga, the mission however went sour after the gang got wind that the area had already been surrounded by police to arrest them.

"I was informed of the robbery by the two Administration Police officers whose guns were snatched and immediately sent a signal to other officers to assemble at the scene but they were clever not to proceed with their scheme but to run," Mutunga said as reported by the Nation.

They reportedly drove off in three saloon cars which police suspect had been stolen.

After police gave a chase, they arrested the two at Cheptiret market centre along the Eldoret-Nairobi highway.
