Unconfirmed reports say that police have refused to take ODM’s notification letter to stage a rally in Mombasa on Sunday.
ODM Mombasa chairman Mohamed Hatimy said the police officers told them they will only guard President Uhuru Kenyatta’s rally to be held at the Tononoka Grounds.
“We were first to organise a rally. We had scheduled it even before the Governor Hassan Joho jetted back,” said the nominated MCA.
“Does this mean that no other functions can take place in Mombasa because the President is around?” he posed.
The ODM official said the move by the police was unconstitutional.
Governor Joho was to lead the rally at Mvita grounds, a few metres from where Jubilee’s rally will take place.
Both rallies were to commence at 2pm.
On Thursday, Joho announced that ODM will hold a rally in Mombasa on Sunday.
Jubilee has, however, refuted claims it was behind the police’ action.
“That’s pure propaganda and bullshit. They are just crying babies who are playing victim and seeking attention,” said Shabal, Uhuru’s point man in Mombasa County.
