Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki has suspended the operation of petroleum tankers until after the general elections.

Achoki said the move is part of the security measures that have been put in place ahead of Tuesday’s elections.Speaking on Friday, Achoki said all tankers are expected to remain in their respective parking yards until the elections are over, as arsonists might use the petrol to cause damage in case violence erupts.“We demand all oil tankers be parked in different parking yards in designated areas. The traffic department has been given instructions to remove such vehicles from our roads,” said Achoki, as quoted by Baraka FM.The commissioner further said that security officers are well-prepared to handle the polls, adding that anyone attempting to interfere with the polls will face dire consequences. He assured residents that police officers are well equipped to deal with any security issues during the polls.“We are ready and well prepared. If you are planning to do anything ill you will be dealt with,” said Achoki.“We have received enough security apparatus and we have a number of well-trained men and women whom we have equipped with new firearms,” he added.
