Police officers in Nairobi shot dead a fake policeman after he was caught robbing members of the public in Shauri Moyo, Nairobi.
Buruburu OCPD Geoffrey Maiyek who confirmed the incident said the police imposter was in a gang of three who were robbing members of the public in Majengo slums.
Maiyek said police officers on patrol at 5.30am on Thursday were alerted by members of the public about the gang and they immediately responded.
The officers on patrol confronted the suspects who were armed and that’s when the robbers opened fire on the officers.
According to the OCPD who was speaking to journalists, a gunfight ensued resulting in the death of one of the robbers as the rest managed to escape.
“They responded and came into contact with the three and upon challenging them, they fired at the officers who responded and fatally injured one unknown male adult,” Maiyek said.
The police imposter was dressed in a jungle green police sweater, police boots, and a handcuff pouch.
The officers recovered a homemade pistol, pocket phone, a phone, a tablet, and an imitation of Administration Police Service certificate.
