Police in Changamwe Sub-County have impounded 7,900 rolls of bhang estimated to have a street value of 1.5 million shillings.
According to Changamwe DCIO Francis Wanjau, traffic officers manning the Mombasa-Nairobi highway with the help of police officers who were patrolling the area on Wednesday, stopped a car that was speeding, after suspecting it was ferrying illegal goods.
Speaking to journalists at Changamwe police station on Thursday morning, Wanjau said police officers searched the car and found several sacks of bhang believed to be on transit to Mombasa from an unknown destination.
The driver of the car however managed to escape,
“Our officers from this station successfully impounded a car which was speeding where the driver escaped upon realising he was noticed by police. We will not relent in our war on drugs,”he said.
The DCIO said police are now on a manhunt for the suspect who will be brought to book soon.
He further cautioned car owners against transporting illegal goods.
