Police in Kisumu have been condemned for using excessive force on demonstrators.
According to some of the victims who are still undergoing treatment at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Hospital, despite not being part of the demonstrators, the police brutalized them living them with server injuries.
“When I tried to explain to the police that I was a peace ambassador the police quickly told me they had nothing to do with peace, one of them even ended up taking Sh11, 600 from my pocket,'' said one of the victims, an old man.
Deputy governor Kisumu county Dr Mathews Owili, who visited the victims condemned the police brutality saying, “despite being in pursuit to protect property, the police are not allowed to shoot anybody.”
Owili insisted that the police can use other means that are allowed by law to subdue the protesters.
He added that no person is a criminal until it’s proven in a court of law.
