Police in Malindi, Kilifi County, on Tuesday arrested two men who were found in possession of bhang worth over Sh350,000.
Confirming the incident, Malindi deputy OCPD Michael Njeru said the drugs were found hidden in one of the suspect's house following a tip-off from members of the public.
“Our patrol team which was on duty on Monday night received information from locals about illegal activities taking place in a certain compound in Furunzi area, Malindi constituency. Our officers quickly moved in and we were able to seize the drugs,” he said.
Mr Njeru said the drugs were packed in four 90 kilogram sacks which contained 168 rolls, 310 medium rolls of bhang and 6 kilograms of dry leaves of bhang.

“We suspect the culprits were planning to transport the bhang to an unknown destination. If you look at the sacks containing the bhang, its street value could be more than 350,000 shillings,” he added.
The two suspects are being detained at the Malindi police station and will be arraigned in court tomorrow (Wednesday) to answer charges of being in possession of bhang.
Residents have raised concerns over increased smoking of bhang among youth, accusing the two suspects of selling the illegal drug to young men in the area.
The OCPD called upon residents to report any suspicious or illegal activities that may be going on in their residential areas.
