Police officers from Matutu police post in Nyamira County are pursuing a criminal gang that allegedly raided a village on Saturday night and robbed a number of people's properties worth thousands of shillings.
Speaking to Hivisasa.com on Sunday, Seagent Philip Mutuku said his team had gathered substantive information that would help them recover a number of items that residents, especially shopkeepers lost to the robbers.
He cautioned Matutu residents against harboring criminal gangs besides urging the gangsters to surrender before they are arrested by the authorities.
“I can confirm that a section of Matutu area was raised late on Saturday with a section of residents especially shopkeepers said to lost properties worth thousands. We are pursuing them and I am soon or later they will be in our custody. We are really concerned that these people may be given shelter with locals and that is dangerous because we will finally catch up with them,” he said.
Mr Mutuku urged local residents to take matters security seriously by working together with the police officers to curb the rising incidents of insecurity.
“A secure nation means development in the country. It is important that locals work with the police to tame such criminals. The most important thing is that security starts with individuals and that is the only solution to these incidents,” he added.
Most shops in the region remained closed for the better part of the day with affected shopkeepers vowing to close the businesses till security is beefed up in the region.
