Police in Mombasa have intensified the search for two G3 assault rifles allegedly used by criminals who have been terrorising residents in the area.
According to Mombasa County commissioner Maalim Mohamed, three members of the gang have already been killed.
Additionally, Maalim says police have launched a hunt for other criminals who are part of the Wakali Kwanza gang.
This is follows reports that the gang is still holding two riffles stolen from police.
One rifle was stolen from a police officer in January this year while escorting a lorry transporting maize flour to Diani, South Coast. The officer was shot dead by three armed men on a motorbike before the trio stole the rifle.
The other G3 rifle got lost last month after a police officer from Likoni police station had gone on a drinking spree.
Two suspects believed to be students were gunned down on Wednesday night in two separate incidents in the notorious Kisauni area. The two are said to be members of criminal gangs terrorising residents in the area.
One of the suspects, Swaleh Abubakar, was shot dead and his body dumped in Soko Mjinga in Kisauni, according to the family.
Abubakar's father, Abubakar Sabur expressed displeasure at the police for not following the law.
The second suspect was gunned down by police around Hongera area after attacking a person in Kongowea Karama.
He was in the company of five others, who escaped after confrontation with police officers, according toCounty Commissioner Mohamed.
The county chief said this is after doing proper profiling of the suspected members of the gangs and the hot spots area within Mombasa County mapped.
He said the places that a thorough profiling has been done in the county include, Kongowea, Hongera, Mshomoroni, Sparki, Old Town, Shika Adabu among other areas where the dangerous gang members are active.
