Police are investigating a case where a cargo train is said to have knocked and killed a man in Changamwe, Mombasa.
According to the friends and family, the man only identified as Nyamai was killed at night, even though it is not clear what time the accident happened.
The suspect the man, who is said to be an alcoholic, was run over by the train after a drinking session.
The residents have lamented over consumption of alcohol in the area, which the claim has contributed largely to the many accident cases.
They now want the government to ensure they step in to help them control the situation.
“I was woken up in the morning around 4 am by another neighbor, the moment we saw the shoes, we automatically knew someone had died. I woke other neighbors up and for sure it was Nyamai,” said one of the residents.
They lamented over laxity by the police in tackling such matters, adding that they are not receiving enough support.
“If it were a case of bhang or illicit alcohol, they would be here harassing people, but now they are nowhere to be seen,” said another resident.
