A notorious gang is causing untold suffering to residents of Nakuru.
The gang calling itself 'confirmed' is mostly made up of youths who are under the mentorship of older gang members.
The mentors usually send the young members on missions to rob residents of Nakuru and are given rewards as per what they bring to the mentors.
Nakuru police commander Hassan Barua confirmed the existence of the criminal group.
“It’s made up of very young and smartly dressed youth, who mainly stay indoors during the day. Others will be found in strategic places along main roads. We have been unable to apprehend them on several occasions, because they use other gang members as sentries,” Barua said.
The gang specifically target mobile phone users, people making cash withdrawals and residential areas.
Residents are worried and have expressed fears over soaring insecurity.
“The gang took my mobile phone and Sh800 and threatened to kill me if I called for help,” a victim narrated.
In recent police raids targeting the gang which is side to number upto 3000 members. Police recovered new machetes, sim cards, phones and stolen ID cards which the criminals use to register new phone lines.
The security apparatus have cautioned the residents of Nakuru to be vigilant and report any suspicious members of the public.
