Police in Yatta are pursuing thugs who waylaid a woman and stole Sh158,000 from her.

In a telephone interview with hivisasa.com, Yatta OCPD Edward Kipsang said Gladys Miriti from Kyeni village was waylaid as she returned home on Thursday morning.

According to Kipsang, the thugs stopped the car driven by the victim before she was ordered to open the gate to her compound.

The thugs, thereafter, ordered her to open the door to her house and instructed her to surrender money in her possession.

"They took her bag which contained Sh38,000 before taking another Sh120,000 that she had in her drawer in one of the tables," Kipsang said.

The money according to police had been picked from a local bank as a loan.

According to Kipsang, the thugs ordered Ms Miriti to surrender her mobile phone before leaving.

They also took away her television set and a radio.

Ms Miriti reported the matter to area Uika chief John Musyoni who informed the police.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident Kipsang said.

He called on members of the public to volunteer information that can lead to the arrest of the thugs.
