Police have today intervened in a chaotic row between two gangs dealing with drugs in Kiambu’s Witeithie dumpsite area.
Witnesses say they heard gunshots in the Saturday morning incident, after a prolonged standoff between the two groups at the dumpsite.
The two groups have been arguing, and occasionally fighting, for the last three days about some missing drugs, according to Witeithie residents. They accuse the gangs of throwing stones at passers-by when the standoff is ongoing.
Area police commander James Linguli, who was speaking after the incident, confirmed that they are aware of the gangs and the drug business going on at the dumpsite.
"We are fully informed about them and the business they do at the site,” Linguli said, adding: “We were forced to engage them after they ignored our officers’ call to calm down and give the residents their peace.”
“Plans are underway to raid the site and eliminate all of them at once as we don't want to leave any stone unturned,” he added.
The men ran away towards Kiganjo route and four of them are nursing injuries at Thika Level Five hospital, awaiting to be arraigned in court once they recover, the police boss said.
The incident comes after Kiambu MCA Peter Muiruri recently warned drug dealers and users at the Witeithie dumpsite against selling drugs to schoolchildren.
