Kenyatta Girls and Kimuchu Secondary School KCSE students had to be transported by police land cruisers to their schools after it proved hard for them to access their examination centres.
Thika West sub-county DCC Tom Anjere said that the students could not have otherwise accessed their exam centres if there was no outside intervention.
"The more than 100 Kenyatta Girls Secondary School candidates arrived early for the mathematics paper only to find the road to their school totally submerged in flash floods. My office in conjunction with the sub-county Education department liaised had to ensure that the candidates sat for their exam as expected," Anjere said on Tuesday.
"Let us assure all the candidates that we will do everything within our means to ensure that they sit for their exams without any problems. I am working with all the relevant government departments including the local leaders to ensure that this exercise proceeds as smoothly as possible despite the ongoing heavy rains," Anjere said.
Thika West Deputy Director of Education Ronald Mbogo, speaking at the same time said that students in flood-prone areas should liaise with their exam supervisors to ensure that in case of floods they can be picked from their homes.
"We are basically saying that those students from affected areas need to liaise with us to ensure that they don't miss on exams. We will facilitate their movements to and from exam centres," Mbogo said.
