Police in Nakuru are looking for two suspects who carjacked a Nakuru-based trader on Tuesday night, and left him critically injured after shooting him in the arm.
Joseph Kanyoro, who runs a chain of wines and spirits distribution outlets in Nakuru town was dropping off a friend at his home in Mawanga estate, before he was carjacked.
According to Nakuru police boss Bernard Kioko, the suspects abandoned the car and took off on foot, after they were confronted by police on patrol in the estate along the Nakuru-Nyahururu highway.
“They engaged police in a shootout and we suspect one of them was shot because a trail of blood was discovered by police later during the chase. We have launched a manhunt to arrest the suspects,” said Kioko during a briefing to journalists in his office.
He said the businessman was admitted at the nearby St.Antony Hospital, where he is recovering. He lost Sh15,000 cash to the robbers.
On another incident, a pregnant woman at Kaptembwa estate in Nakuru West, who was assaulted by her husband is recovering at Nakuru General Hospital.
According to the police, the woman was rescued by officers on patrol in the area, who heard and responded to her distress calls.
The mother of two was assaulted by her husband and sustained serious injuries for failing to serve him food, after he came home late from a drinking spree.
Kioko said that the middle-aged man was arrested and will be charged in court for assault.
