Police officers in Likoni are probing an incident in which a form four leave drowned in a swimming at Talento Beach Resort during the New Year celebrations. According to The Star, Stephen Baraza, 17, passed on while spending with his family at the local hotel.
Confirming the incident, Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich said deceased was swimming alongside his nephew and a niece when the incident occurred. He also said that a team of detectives has already visited the scene of crime to establish the cause of the death.
"A team of homicide detectives has visited the scene and recorded statements from the hotel management and family members. The death is currently being treated as unexplained," he said, as quoted by a local daily.
Elkana Morsen, a relative of the deceased, claimed that the boy met his death while swimming with a floater at around 3 pm.
He also said that the boy had just completed his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) and was set to join campus before he died under unclear circumstances. The relative further said that they never heard the boy struggle before he passed on.
The deceased’s body was transferred to the Coast General Hospital mortuary pending investigations.
