[Photo/buzzkenya.com]An annual report by the East African Bribery Index (EABI) 2017 has revealed that police, lands and judiciary departments are the most corruption-prone public institutions.According to the report, 68 per cent of Kenyans would pay a bribe to access police services, whether willingly or coerced.The report further noted Lands Ministry and Judiciary tied at 48 per cent as the second and third most corruption-prone institutions.The survey also showed showed the most incorruptible public institutions in the country are the tax services (12.9 percent), Huduma Centre (10.7 per cent) and educational institutions as well as utilities.In the report, the office of the President, Auditor General and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) was blamed for the increased corruption due to their poor performance in fighting corruption. “The survey recorded the highest probability of paying a bribe at the Police in Kenya at 41.6 percent followed by a 23.6 percent chance at Civil Registration and 19.6 percent chance at Lands services. On average size of bribe, the highest size of bribe was recorded at the Judiciary at Ksh14,083 followed by Ksh12,360 paid at tax services and Ksh8,956 Kenya Shillings paid for land services,” read part of the report, Thursday.
