Six gunmen were Thursday night shot dead along Ruiru Kiambu highway after they engaged the police in a fierce shootout.
Ruiru police boss Isaac Thuranira revealed that the gunmen were in a private car when they were confronted by the officers and they started shooting them. The police engaged them in a gun fight and they killed them all.
“The bandits have been compromising the security of the area by perpetrating criminal activities in Membly, Ruiru and Kiambu and the police officers have been trailing them for quite some time before they caught up with them last night,” the officer said.
The police boss said that the bandits were on their way to perpetrate criminal activities before they were confronted, as they were heavily armed with dangerous weapons.
He said that one pistol and several machetes and other crude weapons were recovered from the gunmen.
“We are sure they were on an operation to perpetrate crime in another area because they were heavily armed,” Thuranira said.
Their bodies were taken to general Kago funeral home while the car they were in was towed to Ruiru police station.
