The suspect, Ogutu, was gunned down at his residential home at Mkomani, Nyali.

Police started trailing the suspect when he looted from traders who were heading to Kongowea market.

It was said Ogutu looted a phone from a trader on Wednesday morning, which he sold to another unknown man.

The phone was then tracked and later traced from the unknown man. Police officers used the boy to know the whereabouts of the criminal suspect Mr. Ogutu.

The man directed the police to Mkomani village, where they found Mr. Ogutu outside his house.

The police officers wanted to arrest the suspect and arraign him in court, but the suspect disobey the arrest orders. Mr. Ogutu quickly reached his panga ready to attack the police officers before he was brought down by the bullet.

"The police officers found him in his house, he could not run actually, surrendering was the only option for him. Police officers were arresting him before he pulled out his machete to initiate the attacks. They quickly responded by pulling the trigger. They were so much prepared to deal with any attacks from him," said Ali, a resident at Mkomani

Mr. Ogutu's death takes the tally to 13 criminal gangs shot dead in Mombasa, within three weeks.
