Police on Sunday killed a suspected mugger at the Nairobi city centre, intensifying the war on petty criminals in the CBD.

The suspect, who was shot dead on Kimathi Street, was robbing people before police on patrol intervened.

Nairobi Central police boss Robinson Thuku said the suspect was in a group of three thugs, who fired at the law enforcement officers, who retaliated and killed one, as others escaped in a motorbike.

Police last week killed at least four other suspected muggers in different parts of the city. This follows the police launching a manhunt for muggers in the city, after a huge public outcry.
