A police officer was on Tuesday morning shot dead in Kayole area in Nairobi.
The officer, who is attached to the Diplomatic Police Unit is said to have been walking to the matatus stage at dawn when he was accosted by the armed robbers.
The suspected thugs then stole his gun, before shooting him and taking off.
He was rushed to Mama Lucy Hospital, where he later succumbed to injuries sustained from the attack.
Police who are investigating the incident say their colleague was attacked at 6:30 am as he was going to work.
The suspects are said to have escaped on foot, and no one has been arrested so far.
Cases of insecurity are not new in the area, which has time and again recorded similar cases of armed robbery.
The area is home to an organized gang going by the name Gaza boys, which operates largely in Kayole and other areas of Eastlands.
Last year, hardcore members of the group were killed by police officers, and guns recovered from them.
