Speaking in Chepilat town on Monday, area residents from both sides of the border observed that cattle rustling incidents that had almost become a norm in the region reduced drastically in the month of March.

They hailed the General Service Unit from Chepilat camp for taking necessary measures to deal with the menace that had led to loss of millions of shillings from dairy farmers in the region.

“We have had a break from rustling. I think our GSU officers have enforced law and order in the region something that has led to calmness in this region,” said Victor Osoro.

“They have been carrying out their mission in a proper manner and I must recognise the efforts they have put to control the perennial vice,” said Ms Jane Rasugu, a resident in the area.

The local community was also recognised for giving the police intelligence information that led to apprehension of 10 suspects who are yet to answer the charges at the Kisii High Court.

“The locals have also done exemplary well. We have worked with the police and I am sure this problem is a thing of the past,” said Ms Rasugu.
