Being the largest slum in Africa, Kibera accommodates more than 200,000 people.

Insecurity in the slums has been a threat in the previous days but today due to more deployment of police in the slums, security has been restored.

According to the locals of Laini Saba Area, youths who have been a threat by stealing and robbing people who walk on the roads during late night from places of work have been curbed down by officers who make patrols in the slums daily.

Evans Nyasinya, a resident, said that since more police officers from Lang'ata Police Station and other stations patrol the are and cases of insecurity have reduced unlike the past.

"In the past you could hardly walk on Kibera interior roads late at night. Youths who had turned robbers could rob traders and pedestrians of their properties. They took advantage of the dark to do the act. But these days since the police officers patrol in the slums and security lights installed, the robbers seemed to have opted off their robbing acts and changed," he said.

He added that traders can now operate their businesses in the slums confidently due to improved security.

He argued that the set up of security lights at night have helped to end the insecurity menace in the slums.

"Youths should venture into businesses and other activities to make a living since doing illegal activities such as robbing and drug abuse may get them into trouble," stated Mama Jimmy, a trader.
