Cases of abductions of people withdrawing money from banks have increased in Gatundu North sub-county.
Gatundu North sub-county commissioner Daniel Nyamiti revealed on Wednesday that police will clampdown on the gang believed to be behind the abductions.
"Following a series of reports for missing persons in Gatundu North who are believed to have been abducted, we have commenced a trap plan which will involve police and residents. We think that the abductions are conducted by one group which we are out to arrest," he said.
"Most of the residents withdrawing money from banks for their children's school fees have been a big target for the group we are yet to know," he said.
"Police are trying to establish if some bank employees or their associates are colluding with the criminals to ease the abductions for financial gain," he disclosed.
Nyamiti noted that women are the soft key target of the abductors who according to the reported cases are introducing themselves as men of good will and who are after assisting families.
"We had a Kamwangi case where a woman withdrawing money was reportedly driven away in a probox to a fishy farm where she was conned out of her money which she had withdrawn and her daughter who had accompanied her taken away," he said.
The warning comes after a series of abductions have been reported in the sub-county with victims losing large sums of money.
He advised parents to be vigilant and avoid being easily lured to tricks especially when in banks.
