Authorities in Nakuru have launched a manhunt for a driver who knocked down and killed two school children along the Olenguruone-Kiptagich road on Friday.
Olenguruone Senior Chief Samuel Lagat said the children aged eight and six were on their way home from school when the speeding Probox car knocked them down as they were crossing the road near Daraja Mbili.
The chief said the vehicle did not stop and bodaboda riders who attempted to follow the car after the accident did not succeed in arresting the driver as their motorcycles could not race with the car.
"Accidents are on the rise along this road and we call upon traffic police officers to act on drivers who speed," chief Lagat said.
"We are working with the police to ensure the killer driver is arrested," he added.
The bodies of the two children were taken to the Olenguruone Sub District Hospital Mortuary.
Witnesses said it took police close to one and a half hours to arrive at the accident scene. Residents of Olenguruone accused traffic police officers of laxity in curbing speeding along the Olenguruone-Kiptagich road.
The accident that claimed the lives of the two children happened at the spot where another occurred two weeks ago where two people were knocked by a Toyota pick-up. The two survived.
