Tension is high in Seme Sub County after members of the public reportedly arrested a man said to be buying national identity cards at Manywanda.
The man whose identity could not be ascertained by the public was accused of offering Sh4,000 for each ID which he was believed to be politically motivated.
According to witnesses, the man was approaching people privately in their homes and offering the cash before taking away the cards.
“A friend of mine told me about the issue and we went to investigate which kind of person it was, but when we got to him he denied but upon body search, a number of IDs were recovered,” said a resident.
Residents whose IDs had been bought admitted to having received the money, saying the suspect tricked them that he was taking the IDs to go and register them as voters in Kisumu town.
A source said the person had later admitted that he was targeting to buy 8,000 IDs after he was roughed up by the public before escaping to an unknown location.
People were on Fridayon high alert for any reports concerning the man who is believed to be working on the directives from senior politicians.
Area OCPD Reuben Muli said he had not received the information but promised to investigate into the matter.
“Such information is not with us yet but let me get into it through my area OCS,” he said.
