Police have launched a search for missing accident victims following a grisly accident along the Sengera-Omoringamu Road in Gucha sub-county, Kisii County.
One person was on Friday killed while an unknown number of others escaped with injuries when two motorbikes rammed into a lorry along the busy road.
According to Kisii County Police Commander Ms Agnes Mudambi, the lorry was headed in the direction of Sengera with the motorbikes headed in the opposite direction.
“Upon reaching the accident spot, the two vehicles, one of the motorbike riders who was in front of the other suddenly applied the brakes, causing the bike behind to ram into him,” said the county police boss.
She told hivisasa.com that the effect of the rider’s action was to disorient the rider behind, who could not evade the subsequent crash on time.
Police officers are meanwhile searching for the other accident victims to help them with investigations.
Ms Mudambi appealed to boda boda operators to observe traffic rules such as the regulations on speeding and the wearing of safety gear.
“Had the offending boda boda rider complied with traffic rules, he would not have collided with the lorry since he would have been at a safe distance away from it. There is need for bike riders to know and strictly obey traffic regulations to avert unnecessary loss of life,” she said.
