Dozens of youth were today arrested in Ruiru Town in an early morning swoop was conducted police officers from Ruiru Police Station with help from members of public.
Confirming the arrest Ruiru OCPD Isaac Thuranira said that they made the unexpected swoop following public outcry that youth invade bars in the morning for drinking sprees.
“We raided a number of bars in Ruiru Town and arrested dozens of youth,” said Thuranira.
Thuranira said that the youth will be arraigned in court and be charged with of flouting alcoholic rules.
He warned bar owners to stick to the stipulated time of opening their bars.
“Bars are supposed to be opened at the stipulated time but a number of bar owners have flouted the opening time,” said Thuranira.
He said that tough action would be taken against bar owners if they continue flouting alcoholic regulations.
He however said that those complying with alcoholic regulations would not be affected.
“We will not spare anybody in the fight against illicit liquor and those flouting alcoholic rules,” said Thuranira.
Thuranira urged youth to avoid going to bars but instead work hard to build the nation.
“Youth have a stake in nation building and they should abandon drinking sprees,” said Thuranira.
Ruiru residents said that they will support the government in the fight against illicit liquor.
“We will provide information to police and the county government of those involved in illicit liquor,” said Githinji wa Frida a Ruiru resident.
