Police in Eldoret town on Monday arrested a man suspected to be among a syndicate that is behind recent cases of burglaries targeting gas cylinders.
Eldoret West OCPD Samuel Mutunga said the suspect who claims to be gas cylinder distributor was arrested at Jua Kali trading centre on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
Addressing the press in Eldoret, Mutunga said police laid a trap to the suspect following reports from the members of the public.
"Members of the public reported this man alleging that he usually received stolen gas cylinders and that is when we laid a trap following a recent burglary incident at Jua Kali where two gas cylinders were stolen," said Mutunga.
"When we raided the suspect's premise we found several gas cylinders. Some were sealed, others were empty but what is interesting is that some of them were half and not sealed. So the big question would be 'do people buy half gas cylinders?" he added.
The OCPD said the suspect will be arraigned in court on Tuesday to face several criminal charges.
"He claims he delivers gas cylinders to people so if he has the delivery receipts we have no problem but that will be for the court to decide," he said.
Mutunga further asked members of the public who have been victims of burglary cases to visit the central police station in Eldoret town and help identify the gas cylinders and other households recovered during the operation which are valued at close to Sh400,000.
