Police in Thika East on Sunday arrested a 26-year-old man at a hotel in the area and impounded Sh70, 000 in fake currency.
Area AP commander Paul Soi said that Fazul Ramadhan Omoro was arrested when he was serving a customer in the hotel which is new in Ngoliba Town centre.
Soi told the press at his office that administration police officers acting on a tip off from members of the public laid an ambush and found Omoro with the fake notes.
“We are suspecting that the fake notes are circulated at night to unsuspecting public and we are appealing to the public to be vigilant when making transactions,” said the AP boss.
He said that the youth had been dropped in Thika East by a trailer headed for Garissa to transact the business and police are investigating the incident.
Soi added that police suspected that the Omoro had his accomplices in Thika area and he would assist police with investigations.
He asked M-Pesa agents to be keen when carrying out transactions especially at night adding that the fake money had one serial number and the water mark was not clear for all the notes.
Soi thanked members of the public in their bid to curb crime by embracing good relations with security agents which he said had assisted in bringing down crime in the area.
The suspect will be arraigned in court once police are through with investigations.
