Police officers in Nairobi on Monday morning arrested a colleague over an alleged chain of robberies in Buruburu area.

The officer, who is said to be attached to police headquarters, was arrested alongside a civilian while trying to mug residents along Doonholm Road.

According to Buruburu OCPD Geoffrey Mayiek, the policeman and his accomplice had been terrorising locals before residents informed the police who responded swiftly.

"Our officers ordered the two suspects to surrender and on being searched, they were found with a certificate of appointment, a fake pistol and a pair of handcuffs," Mayiek told the Standard.

Residents told the police that the civilian arrested alongside the officer is a casual labourer in the area.

The two were later taken to Buruburu police station where they were locked up.

They are expected to be arraigned in court today (Tuesday) to face robbery with violence charges.
