A police officer was on Monday charged with counts of conspiracy to defeat justice.

Sergeant Abdi Sheikh is alleged to have concealed evidence in the murder case involving a Nairobi businessman.

The slain businessman was killed while on a family vacation  Kilifi.

Abdi allegedly committed the offenses between July 26 and September 28, 2015, while investigating the death of Jimmy Baburam.

He denied the charges before Malindi chief Magistrate Julie Oseko.

Abdi also denied receiving a Sh45,000 bribe to conceal evidence and was released on Sh300,000 bond or Sh250,000 cash bail.

Baburam's wife Amina Shiraz, Abdi's co-accused, also pleaded not guilty to the charges and was freed on Sh200,000 cash bail.
