A police officer was on Tuesday charged before a Nairobi law court for allegedly misusing his firearm.

Gibson Irungu an officer attached at the Muthaiga police station was accused of using his gun to shoot in the air during a confrontation at a bar in Ngara, Nairobi. 

According to the prosecution, the accused shot twice in the air while drinking at Muji bar. 

Irungu denied the charges when he appeared before Milimani Chief Resident Magistrate Daniel Ogemba. 

He is alleged to have committed the offence on Monday 29, August 2016. 

The accused was freed on a bond of Sh200, 000 or an alternative cash bail of Sh50, 000. 

The matter will be heard on October 2,2016.
