A police officer from the Anti-Stock Theft Unit in Gilgil shot himself three times on the head minutes after reporting for duty on Monday.
According to his colleague, the officer had just picked his G3 rifle and headed to his place of work before he decided to commit suicide.
The officer is said to have been with signs of depression and had isolated himself from social engagements with colleagues at work.
“He would say everything is okay whenever we tried to ask him what the problem was," the officer's colleague said.
Gilgil OCPD Sera Koki confirmed the incident.
She said the officer died on the spot.
“It is unfortunate for the officer to kill himself at the Anti-stock theft Unit headquarters. Officers are investigating the matter,” she said.
The deceased body was taken to Gilgil sub-county hospital morgue.
