A contingent of police officers carried an ambush at a camp of Al - Shabab in Ijara, Garissa constituency over the weekend, where they recovered a cache of deadly weapons; loaded pistol magazine, assorted medicine, syringe, and radio, among others.
The officers laid down the raid after they were tipped off by the public who has been recently working and cooperating closely with the security apparatus with a view to expunging the insurgents from their hideout.
Also to be recovered from the site were drugs which officers believed to have been abused by the terrorists.
The officers thanked and congratulated the public for the unwavering cooperation they have given them, saying their constant cooperation would facilitate the annihilation of terror elements who are wreaking havoc in the region.
"I want to thank the residents for volunteering vital information about the terrorists. We acted upon their information and successfully raided and seized crude weapons from the terrorists who are hiding in our midst, " said the officer, who sought anonymity since he is not authorized to speak to the media.
The security machinery has in the recent carried out a massive raid at Boni forest, the main hideout of the insurgents, in a view to smoke out the terrorists who have hiding in the area in the recent years.
