Police officers operating at road blocks along Kisii - Keroka road have been accused of asking for bribes from motorists to operate illegally.
This is after 7 people died following a road accident that occurred on Tuesday evening at Gucha along Keroka-Masimba road in Kisii County.
Residents say police officers guarding road blocks should be moved from the area for failing to arrest motorists that are operating illegally on the roads.
"There is a permanent police road block between Masimba and Keroka just after the Nyamasibi junction, which is less than three kilometres from Keroka town. Police should explain how seven passengers in the Probox mysteriously escaped the road block to meet their death," said Ben Maoga.
Maoga added that traffic police officers are not concerned about people's lives.
"Police should check a maximum capacity of each vehicle at the road block and arrest matatu operators who are overloading in order to save lives," he added.
Eunice Karani said it is high time motorists especially in Kisii stopped overloading.
"Matatu operators should carry the required maximum number and stop carrying excess luggage or passengers for safety purposes on our roads," she noted.
The locals were speaking in Keroka town on Wednesday.
