On Thursday a matatu driver narrated in a Nairobi court how he was physically abused by a traffic officer after the officer kicked his private parts and injured him.

The victim, Earnest Nyawawa Nyamoti, narrated to principal magistrate Kenneth Cheruiyot that he was approached by seven traffic officers while driving on Garden City Road, off Thika Highway, on July 29, 2013.

According to Nyamoti traffic was heavy and the officers accused him of overlapping.

From there the police entered the matatu while one slapped him, pulled him out, kicked his private parts and hurled him into a police vehicle.

He was then detained at the Kasarani police where he was charged with a traffic offense, however, the case was dismissed due to lack of evidence.

The officer accused, Jamal Hussein, has since been suspended and has refuted the allegations that he assaulted Nyamoti causing him grievous harm.

According to Superintendent Hycine Achieng Olaba, a clinical officer, she says she examined Nyamoti after he raised complaints of struggling to walk.“After examining him, I discovered that the scrotum was swollen and it had bruises. The patient told me that an officer had stepped on his private parts,” she said
