A family from Nyakongo area in Kisii has criticised the government for failing to apprehend a man who is accused of killing their kin in a land tussle that turned sour.
Speaking during the burial ceremony, family members said they had enough evidence to incriminate the accused for allegedly hacking Mr Daniel Momanyi over a boundary dispute.
They accused the police of collaborating with the accused to frustrate the deceased family from accessing justice since the accused is said to have bribed the police to secure his freedom.
“There is no justice in this world and that is what people should know," said Moffat Moturi.
"The system is corrupt such that even a criminal who commits an offence in broad daylight is scot free. We reported the incident many days ago but nothing concrete has yet been done,” Moturi said.
“The accused is constantly at the Marani police station to secure his freedom... People who should be protecting us have completely turned against us,” added Mr Ombwori Gesora.
However, Marani OCPD Bernard Kimwele defended his officers from the scathing attacks and asked the deceased's family members to record a statement before the accused is arrested.
“It is impossible to arrest a suspect without even the accusers recording a statement. I would urge them to record the statement before we embark in the process on investigations,” he said.
