Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago has accused the Kenya Railways police officers and staff in the county for colluding with unscrupulous businesspersons engaged in the sale of illicit liquor.
Mandago claimed the illegal alcoholic drinks within the country are always transported using Kenya Railways trains.
Speaking in Eldoret on Monday, the Jubilee allied governor asked the Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and the Inspector General of Police to take actions against the rogue police officers and staff at the Kenya Railways.
"There is a collision between police officers manning the Kenya Railways and those involved in the illegal alcohol as we've realized that of loading of the products are always done in bushes," Mandago claimed.
"As a county, we won't allow such businesses to go on and we are asking that action be taken against the culprits or else we will act on our own," he added.
The governor further lamented that there has been an influx of second-generation alcohol most of which comes into the county from the neighboring Uganda.
"We are concerned as a county and we recently agreed to carry out operations to rid of illegal alcohol," said Mandago.
"Lorry owners involved in the transportation of the illicit alcohol should also be warned that if found they will be impounded," he added.
