Police in Thika West are probing on an incident where a varsity student was last night brutally murdered by unknown people and his body dumped in Kinjo area
Christopher Kamani, 23, was a procurement student at Mount Kenya University and he is said to have been heading home from school at around 7pm, when a gang of unknown number attacked him in a robbery attempt.
The deceased was attacked near his residence with crude weapons and a metal rod believed to have been used to kill him was left at the scene.
Confirming the incident, Thika deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie said that she has ordered immediate investigations to apprehend the people responsible for the brutal murder of the young student.
She however called on residents to take caution and urged anyone with information on the incident to contact the police.
The body of the deceased was taken to Thika General Kago Morgue waiting to be claimed by the family.
Earlier today, police in the area took more than three hours trying to calm the university’s students took to the streets to protest against insecurity in the area.
The students said that the police have absconded their duties of maintaining security.
Following the incident, Thika District Administration Police Commander (DAPC) Samuel Ombonya faulted the protests by the varsity students saying that they are not justified to vandalise business premises nor throw stones at the police station.
He has called on them to calm down and give police time to probe the incident saying that he is sure the police will apprehend the culprits in the murder.
The students have however vowed not to relent in decrying for the justice of their fellow until the police apprehend the killers.
