Police are investigating the circumstances under which a middle-aged man was shot dead in Likoni, Mombasa County on Friday.Addressing journalists in his office, county police chief Johnstone Ipara said ten armed men broke into the 's home at around 3 am and shot him twice at point-blank range.Ipara identified the deceased as Ali Hamisi alias Mure, a resident of Likoni sub-county who according to relatives resurfaced recently after having gone missing for two years.“Mure led a secretive life and neighbours and relatives who talked to him to find out where he has been for the last two years did not succeed to extract any information from him,” Ipara said. The police chief dispelled rumours that the deceased was a wanted terror suspect who local security agencies had been trailing.Ipara said Wataka Salim, a brother to the deceased, called the police in the dead of the night to report the attack.“Police from the nearby Inuka police station responded to the distress call and found the man lying in a pool of blood and took the body to the Coast General Hospital mortuary,” he said. The deceased's wife Mwanajuma Hamisi told journalists that her husband was shot three times in the legs and once in the head despite pleading for mercy.Mwanajuma said her husband upon interrogation of where he lived for the last two years said he was away in Tanzania doing business, without elaborating the nature of the business that kept him away from family and friends.
