Police in Nairobi have launched a manhunt for a house help who stole her employer’s pistol and Sh350,000.
The house help is said to have taken advantage of her boss’ absence to commit the crime at Ridgeways estate, Nairobi.
Nairobi police commander Japheth Koome said on Thursday: “Her boss had left the house to look for a machine to trim grass in the compound. She must have known where her boss kept keys to the briefcase.”
The stolen pistol had 15 rounds of ammunition.
The man whose identity police have concealed because of security reasons is said to have had no gun license.
Koome said his officers are also investigating circumstances under which the man owned a gun without a license.
The incident happened on Thursday, one year after a similar one happened in Nairobi’s Lavington estate when a house help vanished with her employer’s pistol containing nine rounds of ammunition.
House helps have recently been on the limelight over mostly theft cases. They have also been on the radar over incidents of mistreatment on employer’s children.
A video widely circulated on social media in 2016 showing a house help kicking, slapping and pinching a child said to be less than one year old in Nairobi. The house help was arrested and charged in court.
